News & Announcements

Message from the Congress Chairman

It is a great honor to announce and invite you to the 22nd Congress of the Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa.

Our congress will once again form a meeting place for scientific discussion and debate, for renewal of old and the making of new friendships, as well as relaxing and enjoying the social comforts in the Helderberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa.

We have made Neuro-Endoscopy the main theme of this congress and our International Faculty will include experts in this field such as:

In addition we will spend some time on Neuro-intensive care and have invited Prof Lori Shutter a neurosurgeon and neurointensivist from the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute.

We will also have a closer look at Neuro-monitoring as an adjunct to neurosurgical procedures and Francesco Sala, Department of Neurological Sciences and Vision, University Hospital, Verona, Italy has been invited to lead discussion on this very important innovation.

We also have our own experts in these fields and we invite them to actively participate with research papers and expand on their experiences in these highly specialized areas.

A pre-congress workshop on aspects of Neuro-endoscopy will be held on 3 October 2012. More information pertaining to this event will become available early next year.  Our congress will expose you to both old and new innovations and technologies from our close friends in the trade.

The congress venue is the NH Lord Charles Hotel, an elegant venue with modern conference facilities that is nestled in the Helderberg region of the Western Cape Province, against the backdrop of the Hottentots Holland mountains. It is situated in the heart of a region that is home to over 1300 very special plant species called fynbos, small populations of buck and leopard, approximately 110 bird species and for the enthusiasts of viticulture it is situated in one of the most important wine routes in the world.

In addition there are the warm waters of the Indian ocean; sprawling white sand beaches and even whales that frolic in the waters at this time of the year, close by.

This is truly an area that you will find extremely relaxing, a much needed part in the lives of neurosurgeons.

We must see you in October 2012 so please diarize the dates of this congress and start preparing your scientific presentations.

We look forward to meeting with you and welcome you to the Southern tip of Africa.

BENNIE HARTZENBERG
CONGRESS CHAIRMAN.
